Emma T. Leathe, 32, of Reading, identified as the woman who drowned herself off City Point, South Boston. She had worked 12 years in a shoe factory, suffered illness and odd behavior recently, and left Reading for Woburn and Boston the day before. Her mother Clara Leathe and sister are distraught. Emma planned to attend Bethesda Congregational on Christmas morning.
Emma Leathe, daughter of Captain Charles Leathe, left home after 10:15 p.m. and did not return, prompting her relatives to notify Chief Merrill at 8:30 p.m. She had complained of severe headaches recently and was the sole supporter of her family since her father died. The body remains at Cole's undertaking and will be moved home tomorrow morning. Funeral planned for Wednesday afternoon in private.
