Edward Bouffard a 21 year old Canadian was killed at the International Paper mills in Livermore Falls Maine when he was crushed between several heavy paper rolls this morning.
London dispatch reports three big Allan line steamers Laurentian Parisian and Pomerianian chartered by the government to carry Canadian troops to South Africa. The Laurentian sails next week and the other two follow. The move forms part of wartime transport plans.
Joseph McAvoy a four year old from 99 Walker street was recovered by Policeman Henry Weidmeyer after being abducted yesterday. The suspect Maria J Symon of 78 St Marks place was arrested at the Brooklyn Bridge entrance at 2 30 am. The boy was found half dead from hunger and fatigue and police eventually obtained a straight account from the woman at Oak Street station.
She initially denied assistance but later told station matron she took the boy to gain a reward. She wandered the streets all day, visited several saloons begging drinks. The woman was locked up and the boy was returned to his anxious parents.
Former boxing champion John L. Sullivan appeared in New York City court for supplementary proceedings and testified he has not a dollar to his name, owning only his salary as a theater manager.
In Athol on December 20 a Boston and Albany train leaving for Springfield at 80 cents derailed when the engine boiler exploded with great force. Engineer Inghram and Fireman Cowan sustained serious injuries.

The class of 1901 elected officers after a constitution committee report. Officials include President Carl Staples and secretary H Elizabeth Meredith. The class of 1900 evening high school elected John H. Murphy as president and Miss Curtin as secretary, with meetings set for Tuesdays at the high school.
The electric light works report the outage was caused by a broken condenser on the large engine. Parts must be bought from Fitchburg, and if they arrive in time the lights will resume their usual brightness tonight.
The Maternal association of the first Congregational church elected officers on Wednesday with Mrs. W. W. Kelley as president, Mrs. O. F. Osgood and Mrs. T. B. Stevenson as vice presidents, and Mrs. Stott as secretary and treasurer. The executive committee was chosen, and plans for a programme for next year were made.

The liquor squad searched 27 Merrimack Street earlier today. They seized eight bottles of ale and 17 empties and took the property to the police station. Harrington faces police court tomorrow morning for illegal keeping. Separately, inspectors seized one barrel of beer two gallons of whiskey and one gallon of gin at Worthen Street. second seizure at that location.
In a brief Hadley police court session officers Dennett and McKay raided Daly's block at Daly's corner Keene and Gorham. Five of the six drunken defendants were sent to the workhouse for 10 to 20 days after pleading guilty. John McKinnon and Catherine Hightan were continued to tomorrow.
Mrs. C. S. Dodge, about 50, of 269 Westford Street, was badly injured in Boston when a sign fell on her head on Winter Street. She was taken to Boston City Hospital with a fractured skull. Initial hopes of recovery faded, though a small improvement was noted. her family was notified.

The High school class of 1900 held a fad party in the school hall with teachers as chaperones. The new mandolin and Guitar club made its first public appearance with hearty encores. Frappe was served and a social hour followed. Mr. Walter Benoit departs for a short stay in Montreal. Mrs. Adelbert Ames will host a tea next Thursday for Mrs. Lanier Dunn. Hon. Geo A Marden to speak at Forefathers Day in Poughkeepsie tomorrow evening. Mr. John Lennon is seriously ill with pneumonia after an attack last Saturday.
