Col. William A. Simmons former Boston port collector was found guilty of swindling. He allegedly secured Thomas B. Bryan’s signature on a deed exchanging Chicago real estate for 6000 Florida acres touted as worth ten dollars per acre but argued to be far less valuable. The high profile case involved prominent figures including Col. Charles Page Bryan.

A 14 year old boy claimed Woburn as home and was brought to the police station with $24.50 on him. He said he stole $27.50 from his father’s bureau and fled toward Lowell on the first available train. His father identified him as his son and they left for Woburn together. The pair refused to give names.

Robert B. Seeton, longtime brass finisher, and his son Charles R. W. Seeton, a noted photographer, sailed from New York this morning. They have settled all business interests here and intend to engage in the coffee trade in Honduras, bound for the country.
D H Brigham owner of a leading Springfield clothing store died Wednesday night from Brights disease. He recently marked the 50th anniversary of his business and was a native of Shutesbury noted for his charity.

A $15 fine was imposed. probate items listed several wills and administrations in the same docket.

The Catholic Association held a Wednesday evening reception for Privates Homer L. P. Turcot te and Ovilla Morin of Co. C Sixth Regiment. A whist tournament followed with prizes won by Adélard Guimond H. Gill and H. Bourget. A musical and literary program closed the event with committee members listed. Le Garde D'Honneur attended represented by Captain M. Cosette and officers Adelard Guimond J. Lamoureux plus Sergt. Albert Guimond and Priv. J. Carriere.
John M. Pevey died at his home 441 Westford Street Lowell aged 61 after a stroke last week. He trained as a machinist and worked in Walker Street with Foss & Pevey in cotton card and yarn manufacture before about five years ago becoming proprietor of the Golden Sheaf in Middle Street where he ran wholesale liquor then added retail. He was a Mason of high standing and a charter member of the Highland club and member of The Club. He served on the board of aldermen in 1863 during George F. Richardson’s second term. Brothers include James A Pevey Frank lin S Pevey and Gilbert A A Pevey.
Miss Mary Norris dies at nephew James E. Gorman’s home after two months illness. Funeral at St Peter's church Friday at 9. William T. Jacobs, 23, dies at 60 Fifth Avenue, son of Daniel and Sophia. Sergeant Samuel G. Ayers and Miss Rebecca G. Allen were married yesterday afternoon at 116 Appleton street by Rev. J. M. Craig of the First Presbyterian church. The ceremony was intimate with a few friends. After luncheon the bridal party traveled by train to New Brunswick and plan to reside in Lowell in a few months.
