The Masonic Temple in Laconia New Hampshire was gutted by a fire sparked in the basement with a blast that hurled debris up to 400 feet away. Loss tallies reach about 125000 with extensive damage to the post office offices and surrounding businesses. The four story brick block, built in 1894, housed Laconia Hardware Knight Huntress Dry Goods and multiple city offices. Firemen faced eight inches of snow and a gale as they battled the blaze.
