James Alexese was found guilty of assaulting Mrs. Julia Discilt at 17 Howe Street and fined $15 by Judge Hadley. Prosecution cited brutal kicking, with testimony from Dr. William M. Collins and several officers. defense claimed only removing Discilt from the premises.
New York on August 30 a swimming policeman pursued Edward Brown through swift waters after a pickpocketing incident. The struggle ended when the officer, helmeted and armed with a club, overpowered Brown a short distance off shore and escorted him to the dock amid cheering spectators.
Arthur Germain an 18 year old worker at Pilling's shoe shop suffered a deep cut to his right index finger and received five stitches after treatment at the Emergency hospital. John Rafferty 26 received a severe scalp wound while moving boilers on Tanner street and was treated with seven stitches at the same hospital. Three year old Biddette DeGeorge fell on the sidewalk near 137 Gorham street and had a lower lip laceration dressed at the Emergency hospital.
Chicago August 30 Edward J Lewis a Wheaton Illinois real estate broker who used duplicate mortgages to defraud widows and others of about 100000 was taken today to Joliet penitentiary to begin an indefinite sentence.
Secretary Bonaparte acted on the Bennington explosion findings disapproving the ship’s discipline verdict and criticizing the officers for safety valve neglect. He orders Captain Lucien Young to face a court martial and Ensign Charles T. Wade, who oversaw machinery, to stand trial.
A wreck near Augusta on the Southern railway is reported with a quarantine guard killed and several injured. The rear coach of a South Carolina and Georgia train turned over at Reynolds street crossing after leaving Augusta union station. Augusta health officer F. J. Murphy died. flagman Geo. W. Lote had both legs cut off and also died. Train No. 18 bound for Charleston reportedly wrecked with one death and multiple injuries.

Chicago August 30. William Van Voorhees was shot and killed by his wife in a quarrel at their restaurant on Thirty second and Benson streets. Three shots ended his life before police arrived.
