New York reports Fitzsimmons will fight Jeffries on August 31 or not at all. He rejects six months deals, demands winner take all or 65 percent of receipts, or equal division. He will accept terms to enter the ring before September 1 and plans to retire soon to a Chicago training school.
In Chicago streets on August 27 the Grand Army encampment for navy, civil and Spanish war veterans and ex prisoners of war association held a parade reviewed by Commander-in-Chief Shaw Acting Gov Warner and Mayor Harrison. The city was crowded and decorated as the big naval arch on Michigan Avenue was dedicated.

In Chelsea on August 27 Frank Craig fatally wounded Lizzie Collins after they had lived together and separated. He pleaded for marriage, but she refused, and he then killed himself.
In New York on August 27 H H Stricheon a Baltimore lumber merchant was shot twice by H J Ford of Boston at the Hotel Vendome after breakfast. Ford then killed himself by blowing out his brains. The men had shared breakfast and later had trouble in their room.
London Aug 27 Gen Yamaguchi reports Chinese hopes to retake Pekin persist. A force of about 9000 with 15 guns advances from Shantung toward Pekin likely to disrupt allied communications.
Rome, Aug 27 report confirms a Taku despatch that four convoy is being ferried at Pekin under strong escort to conduct wounded and civilians, including women and children, to Tien Teh.

Humane Society Agent Richardson is monitoring the case. He is believed to be well aside from his romantic impulse to travel early.
A successful Saturday lawn party at the residence of Mr and Mrs Wenthworth on Billerica street hosted by Victoria lodge I O O L featured refreshments and games. Prizes were awarded in events such as boat and barrel, ladies egg and spoon, girls egg and spoon, doughnut race, ladies running, boys three legged race, with winners named and a list of aiding committee members noted.
Joseph Nagan of 168 Suffolk Street was struck near the Billerica railroad while crossing at seven this morning. He earned a scalp wound but no skull fracture after being hit by a second train following a near escape from the first. Adelard Coucher of Bibeault's block was scalded on the feet at Lawrence mills. Both were taken to city hospitals for treatment.
Frederick Astbury, 38, an employee at the Merrimack mill, was seriously injured Saturday morning when a heavy bale of cotton fell on him as he remained in a stopping position. He was taken to the Lowell hospital and is expected to be confined for some time. He is married and resides at 38 Fifteenth Street.
Albert Severance, employed at Friend Brown bakery, was overcome by heat just after 11 PM while at work. An ambulance took him to St John’s hospital, but he refused to stay and was returned home at 700 Street. Medical condition was doubtful.
