Reports from the Gold Coast Colony say serious trouble has arisen in Ashantee. The Inkaranzas and other tribes have joined Chief Samory to expel the British from Kumaussi, the capital. The British ship Thoebe and other vessels will land troops on the coast to halt the plan.

Hon E Dana Bancroft dies at 75 after sunstroke while driving from Ayer to Shirley. Survived by four married daughters. Former Ayer district representative in both houses, Bancroft held high ranks in Masons I O O F and Knights Templar, and led several local clerical orders.

South Bend Indiana August 18 Josiah Kelley a 25 year assistant cashier at the First National bank killed himself last night He admitted a shortage of over 24000 before his death The confession followed an investigation into embezzlement at the bank and the financial strain it caused Kelley and the institution.
New York August 13 The Manhansett summer hotel at Shelter Island burned this forenoon. Aid was summoned from Greenport R I L but the building is thought to be a total loss.
The British yacht Valkyrie II, which left New York on July 15, reached the Clyde last evening, docking in Glasgow, Scotland, on August 13.
Taunton on August 13 reports the death of Rev E J Sheridan longtime pastor of St Marys Roman Catholic church after a long life of service. He was 72 years old and died in Taunton. His ministry spanned a quarter century shaping parish life and community.
