From Shanghai on August 1 details emerged about the sinking of the German cruiser Iltis in the June typhoon ten miles north of the Shangtung peninsula. President Cleveland Private Secretary Thurber and actors Joseph Jefferson William H Crane and Charles B Jefferson left Buzzards Bay for Mashpee this morning on a bass fishing trip. They expect to be gone until tomorrow night. This is the President's first trip to Mashpee within two years.

At Lake Ottoosee five miles from Knoxville a Sunday school picnic ended in tragedy when a chute boat with thirteen children collided with a rowboat. Four were killed or injured. the dead include Charles Perry 17 Walter Wright 21 Carrie P Hibbs 17. Mary Foster of Alabama was severely injured and expected to die. Wright's neck was broken in the crash.
An early morning runaway accident on Lawrence Street sent two men to St John’s Hospital. Peter Slamga, of 5 Chapel Street, suffered a broken leg and severe shock, while Joseph Turcotte sustained an arm fracture and a scalp wound on the right side of his head.

The funeral services for the young daughter of Mr and Mrs Seymour occurred this forenoon at the Catholic church. The child was between two and three years old with interment at St Josephs cemetery in Lowell.
