In a three story brick tenement at the corner of Charles and Chapel streets known locally as Shanandoah Valley a pistol shot wounded John McCabe in the left shoulder during an affray with Cornelius O Mahony who was arrested after a struggle. Miss Catherine McCarthy, O Mahony’s intended target, and Mrs. McCabe provided details of the confrontation. O Mahony, about 56, Irish-born, allegedly threatened multiple times and previously jailed in Ireland for stabbing a woman. McCabe and McCarthy described O Mahony’s planned attack and love threat while McCabe was treated at St Johns hospital.
