Three year old William Lally of 71 Yeoman street Roxbury was struck by an electric car on Hampden street near Yeoman street shortly before 3 pm Saturday. He suffered scalp wounds and was hospitalized. Ladder 13 firefighter Michael Dacey jumped from the car platform to the fender and pulled the child to safety. A man’s body was found in Boston harbor Sunday morning. about 5 feet 10 inches tall, wearing a blue overcoat and sack suit, in the water for weeks and taken to North Grove street morgue.
P R Favor of Chester street is very ill with scarlet fever. Charles Hogan, a post office clerk, recently released from St John’s hospital, was out Saturday. Rev George M Ward of Rollins College recalled Florida’s wartime base impact on his family now sending 30 Cuban children as students. Jeffery L Mercier returned north seeking health, much improved. Engagement of Patrick Keily and Miss Nora Brennan announced. Rev Michael O’Brien received a ruby adorned jubilee memento from Ireland. Lowell boys arriving with the Eighth included Young Garity Murray Ward Waltham Wallace Larkin Samson Munroe McAnn Donahoe Parks Howe Hastings. Capt S H Fletcher and family begin two week tour to NY Philadelphia Gettysburg Washington. Abiel J Abbot and daughter of Westford return from month long Paris steamer trip. Fred D Hastings of the Eighth returns home to Centralville after guard duty. Crematory repairs completed by Richard Dobbins for the health board.
General Lawton captured Santa Cruz, chief city of Laguna de Bay, driving insurgents led by Pac Wah into the mountains. American losses were six wounded. natives reported 68 killed and 40 wounded, with Lawton moving to the west as Otis cables confirm the victory and favorable conditions.
The trial of 18 citizens accused of lynching Postmaster Baker opened in Charleston. About 150 witnesses will testify over an estimated two weeks. Two prisoners have turned state's evidence. Baker's crippled family attends the proceedings after the victims were found badly wounded in the woods the next morning.
Three batteries of light artillery arrived from the east and two trains with four heavy batteries are due this morning. The light batteries head for Manila while the heavies are sent to Honolulu for garrison duty. The Thirteenth and Twenty First infantry regiments are due soon for Manila.
The exchange copy of the Spanish-American peace treaty arrived in Washington and is now with the French ambassador for arranging the final exchange.
The J C Ayer company employees launch Up in the Ayer an eight page publication priced at ten dollars for outsiders. The issue notes editorial plans with editions tri monthly bi monthly and states the balloon office location three miles above Lowell. It also outlines contemplated improvements to the Ayer buildings including a top floor laboratory and large tanks on the fourth floor for Sarsaparilla Cherry Pectoral and Hair Vigor.
The J. C. Ayer company plans extensive renovations across two buildings. The third floor will house receiving and crude stock, the second floor will host mailing and an advertising branch, and the first floor will contain the bindery and printing departments with new machinery. A $1000 glazed brick tunnel will connect the structures, basements will be cleaned and lit, and overhead rails added for heavy materials. The existing building 99 will be replaced by a four story addition housing the electrotyping, laboratory leadership, and library and medical departments with a fireproof basement for boilers and coal. A premier engine and dynamo plant will occupy the ground floor, signaling the nation’s most modern New England laboratory as a result of these improvements.
The new assistant assessors will report for duty on the old ward lines and be assigned to districts they know best. Each man is understood to be familiar with a different district, and when principals gather them in two weeks they will distribute assignments accordingly.
Postmaster A G Thompson returns from Washington where he pushed improvements in the local carrier system. No definite decisions yet but he reports encouragement from the department and hopes to enhance carriers service after July 1.
At the forenoon annual meeting in the vestry Daniel Swan was chosen president and Daniel A. Swan clerk. Arthur G. Pollard was named treasurer with trustees Daniel Swan George J. Carney Arthur H. Hosford and Pollard also listed among officers.
A Masonic exemplification will be held at the Masonic temple tomorrow at 2 oclock. Four local lodges will participate along with two from Ayer and one each from Billerica and Concord. The event is described as of great importance and many Masons are expected to attend. C Arthur Abbott is noted as a candidate for principal assessor.
Rev I B LeClaire testified at length about past discussions with Daniel LeClaire and movements around Lowell and Lynn. Wife Josephine LeClaire supported his version while witness accounts questioned credibility and reputation of both sides as the case on trial continued.
Mary Kershaw faced six counts of larceny with a new charge for stealing a $10 waist from Chris Holmes. She pleaded guilty to all six, waiving exam ination, and was held in $400 on each count totaling $2400. Other arrests include drunkenness and assault cases, with varied pleas and sentences ranging to jail or the workhouse.
In a dingy ground floor room at 42 Cross street two drunken women fought late Saturday night. Mary McManus lies in St John’s hospital comatose with a severe facial wound and head contusion while Mary Gannon is jailed, facing charges as investigators piece together conflicting accounts. Nearby neighbors note heavy drinking earlier, and police later raided related speakeasies seizing whisky.
Thomas E. Kelleher and John K. Chase entered Fairburn's on Gorham street during the early hours and looted the place. Chase drew a dagger while Kelleher smashed a glass show case causing about 25 dollars in damage. Officers subdued them after a spirited resistance. Kelleher has prior arrests and is linked to a past murder committed by his father.
J A Gage of Riverside street Pawtucketville paid a complaint to police headquarters yesterday alleging an unlicensed dog he held in captivity had trespassed. The report outlines the alleged act and the owner’s assertion seeking remedy.

The body of Margaret Douglass to be sent to St Stevens New Brunswick today by Undertaker O'Donnell.
