Rocks Fell Across Train's Path Near Northfield Vermont
A mass of rocks on the Central Vermont tracks one mile south of Northfield caused a northbound Boston to Montreal express wreck at 3:40 am. The locomotive and three cars plunged 40 feet down an embankment. one man, fireman Timothy O'Neil of Northfield, was killed. Firemen, passengers, and crew escaped serious injury. several French Canadian passengers were unharmed. The line was blocked for hours while wrecking crews cleared the site and passengers transferred to another train.
