Cheers from thousands greeted the arrival of the Fifth Massachusetts regiment from Greenville South Carolina at the Southern station this morning. The unit, mustered out but keeping its organization, paraded to the State house to deliver the colors to Gov. Wolcott. Led by Col. Whitney, the regiment was reviewed by the governor as bands played from Godfrey's British Guards and the Fifth and Second regiments. After the public ceremony, companies dispersed to home towns including Charlestown Cambridge Newton Plymouth Medford Waltham Woburn Attleboro Braintree Malden and Hudson.
Boston on April 3 reports that cotton mills across New England began work on an advanced wage schedule. The plan covers over 140000 workers across more than 120 corporations, with an average wage increase of about ten percent, restoring pay rates to near those before the 1898 reduction.
Bellaire Ohio April 3 The National Steel company voluntarily announces a ten percent wage increase effective immediately. About five thousand workers will be affected.
Samuel Haller ticket seller for Buffalo Bill's Wild West show was mortally shot in a West Thirtieth street saloon. William H Holland a 33 year old Montreal bookkeeper and guest at the St. Cloud hotel fled after the attack. Billy McCune says a remark about Holland sparked the violence as Holland burst from a lavatory and fired.
Funeral honors were held for Henry J. Jennings, Michael S O'Malley, and John McNamara of Company K Ninth Massachusetts U S V who died in Cuba. Their caskets lay in state at the Company K armory before a service at St John’s Catholic church in Clinton on Sunday.
Since yesterday the procession to the church was led by a band and followed by Ancient Order of Hibernians, Order of Foresters, West End Boat Club, and the fire department, with G. A. R. post 64 and Sons of Veterans post 19 also present. Rev Fr W C McCaughton delivered an eloquent eulogy before interment in the new St John’s cemetery.

Superior Court, Ond. J. reports a verdict for $700 to Wannah Sulli van against Joseph S. Marin for injuries from an elevator incident on February 15, 1898 at the defendant building Merrimack street. Trial spanned three days with Hogan and Pratt representing sides. The docket then moves to Wiggin pro am to v Charles H. Fiske over alleged false arrest.

Eight candidates received baptism at Easter evening.
Master lilies and Easter music brightened the First Universalist Church service with Theodore Dubois The Seven Last Words of Christ. A quartet choir plus 24 guest voices under Dr F B Rix performed at 4 pm, after opening hymns scripture reading and prayer. The solemn cantata featured solos by Mrs Jennie L Sherburne Mr James F Spellman and Mr Arthur Lane and closing chorus prayer.

The Easter music filled both morning and evening services as Pastor preached The Resurrection and the Life. Primary and intermediate Sunday school children in the program included Bessie Leighton Zilbah Roper Maud Gray Martha Taylor and Edith Geene, each receiving a tulip or lily. Mrs. R A Greene led the day with special youth parts and the evening featured music by the choir and violinist Mr J P Dwyer.
