Lawrence April 2 The second day business session of the New Hampshire Methodist Episcopal conference approved boxes for historical storage funded by the conference treasurer. The state librarian offered space at the state library, which was accepted. Several first year class members were advanced to second year studies and others elected to elders orders including Sprouts Farmer Thompson Draper Searle and Quimby.
Ottawa reports the Winnipeg conference between Dominion and Manitoba commissioners closed without agreement. The Dominion proposed adopting Nova Scotia or New Brunswick school systems, which Manitoba rejected. Manitoba suggested full secularization or a daily religious exercise period with parental opt out, to be conducted by a pastor or acceptable nonclergyman. the Dominion rejected this, and the talks ended.
Charles D Cole past grand secretary of the Odd Fellows of the state died at his Highland avenue Cambridge home on Wednesday at age 72 after a lifelong Cambridge residence. He served as state grand secretary from 1856 to 184 and was grand scribe of the grand encampment for years. Mrs Elizabeth Charles author of The Chronicles of the Schonberg Cotta Family and The Martyrs of Spain died in Hampstead England on Monday.
Associated Press reports a violent incident in which a sheriff and a citizen were shot in a confrontation. Authorities investigated as details and motives remained unclear amid ongoing inquiries.
In Concord Georgia on April 3 Sheriff Ginn tried to arrest Taylor Dell for robbery and attempted murder. Dell fired from his barricaded house wounding the sheriff. John Madden was shot while tending the wounded as the crowd surrounded the dwelling vowing to burn Dell if captured.
In Grain Valley 25 miles from Kansas City an attempted rail wreck derailed a Chicago and Alton train from St. Louis. The engineer stopped the engine after finding an obstruction and loosened rails were found. Authorities suspect robbers behind the act, the second such attempt in six weeks.
In Attleboro on April 3 Wade Davis & Co jewelers and William H Wade of Wade Davis & Co along with Holland G Bacon of Lincoln Bacon & Co jewelers are assigned. The total involves about $100 000 and fears arise that other firms will be affected. Dulness in the jewelry business is cited as the cause. Lincoln & Bacon remains unaffected.
Andrew Jensen appeared in court in Chicago on April 3 to be examined for insanity. He stated he, along with three others, had been released from an asylum in Minneapolis before they were cured, and that the others were on the train but left before reaching Chicago. He claimed he did not wish to leave but was compelled to do so.
A cloudburst in Clay and Owsley counties wiped out all houses along Buffalo Creek. Nine people died and more than a thousand residents faced peril as the disaster threatened further calamities and left the community in terror.
Thomas Brennan burned to death in a waste flume while trying to extinguish a small fire. He entered the flume with a hose, loosened ashes fell, cutting off his escape, flames spread, and his clothes caught fire.
In Friend Nebraska on April 3 Richard Wringer, once bitten by a dog and later believed to have grip, was diagnosed with hydrophobia by doctors. After learning of the diagnosis he took his own life by cutting his throat.
Boston and New York markets shut on Good Friday with financial trading halted. Local traders note holiday closure affects banks and brokers across the financial centers.
An electric car with good headway struck a team driven by Otis Allen near the old Franklin school in Middlesex Street at noon. Rev John D Colbert executor of Patrick Moran's will paid St Johns hospital 3861 as a residuary legacy with Notre Dame academy named as other beneficiary. Expected larger bequest faded as estate shrank, and the payment was used immediately to reduce the hospital's standing debt.

A Superior court sitting case involving Thomas McCormick and James Banks of Lowell against the Lowell Lawrence and Haverhill railroad was settled out of court for $1000. Additional verdicts followed for Locke against Pike over real estate mortgage foreclosure. A. L. Hutchins sues A. B. Woodworth for injuries from a split saw.
Mr and Mrs D W Fitch of Billerica Centre celebrated their fifteenth wedding anniversary with a reception on Thursday night. Nieces Miss E Wilkins assisted, ushers included Messrs Ernest Walker and Walter R Holden. Local Odd Fellows and Rebekah lodge members attended. Gifts included an oak chamber set, oak dining chairs, and a silver olive spoon. Impromptu songs and piano solos followed, with an elaborate lunch served at 9 30.
William E Leinhas, a bankrupt Middlesex street furniture dealer, swore out a warrant against Simon and Samuel Cohens. Samuel Cohens was arraigned in the police court this morning and kept on bail to April 10 for examination. Leinhas alleges the Cohens stored his goods at various places, sold some in Boston, and kept the proceeds. The Cohens plead not guilty.

Lowell Council R A held a social session at Union hall last night with E M McMurtrtry of the F of A delivering a short address after recently becoming an Arcanamite. Regent Bowen spoke and J B Jackson sang.

The trust benefits Taylor for life with remainder to heirs. she claims undue influence by guardian stepfather Frank P. Putnam and mistakes about the deed. The ruling concludes Taylor acted freely and understood the deed’s contents, negating revocation grounds.
The commons committee met to approve most bills, rejecting a $12.21 sewer assessment for Durant street abutting Centralville park and an old $55 charge by ex-superintendent Avery Marshall. John Brady sought $34.50 for wagon use. neither was approved. The panel aims to stay within a set appropriation, possibly reducing staff. The superintendent may install a gate at Varnum park. a sand bank behind Fort Hill park could help grade the driveway after spring rains. The session adjourned about five.
