Santa Fe A. R. Manby replies to a $50,000 breach of promise suit by Miss Margaret A. K. Waddell of Los Angeles. He denies borrowing $7,000 but admits receiving $500 as half interest in an oil painting to be sold in the East. He says upon learning the painting was valueless he offered to return the full $500, but she took only $150.
The U S land office shows 93 entries in August, down from 174 in July, with total acreage 46 208.71 and receipts 41 501.12 dollars. August earnings fell about 2500 from July when a coal sale brought 2000 dollars.
First Lieut. John A. Early of the Twelfth United States Cavalry and John A. Young Gallup city attorney and New Mexico legislator were drowned in Lake Mariano about forty miles northwest of Gallup.

The Origin hotel at Roy burned down during breakfast hours. Guests were present as flames swept through the building, with emergency crews battling the blaze and inspecting for remaining hotspots. No injuries reported at press time.
The thirtieth annual session of the New Mexico English Mission was held at the First Methodist Episcopal church in Albuquerque with Bishop Edwin Holt Hughes of San Francisco presiding.
Melrose report Arlie Hughes son of W R Hughes fell twenty feet into a pit silo sustaining a deep scalp gash and considerable bruising in the accident.

A seven passenger touring car owned by H. A. Beck of Denver was wrecked in a head on collision with a taxicab on Santa Fe avenue. The Denver car carrying Mr. Beck and several others traveled north while the taxi came from the opposite direction and both vehicles attempted to turn into Eighth street. Wreckage piled over the Gaui None of the occupants was hurt seriously.
