October 7 Deadline to Register to Vote

Body of D. T. Davis to Fort Worth for burial
Daniel T. Davis who served the Ft. Worth Star Telegram area for 15 years died at 90 in Hobbs. His body was taken to Fort Worth for burial after services led by Rev. C. E. Jameson. Survivors include Mrs. Winnie Higgins, Mrs. Ethel Burden, Mrs. R. W. Rowland, two sons Dr. L. T. Davis and Walter Davis, and one sister Suzy Tarry. No Action On Slot Machine Disposition In District Court
No action was taken in District Court Monday on the disposal of slot machines seized by Sheriff Horace Burl Owens and others on September first. First Lea County Cotton Bale Brings 1000 Dollars
The first Lea County cotton bale sold for 1 000 dollars on the Lovington Courthouse lawn. I J Bizzell grew the bale and sold it for 67 cents a pound, 455 pounds, with 304 85 dollars plus 699 15 dollars bonus from Lovington merchants. Pat Patteson bought the bale for Western Cotton Oil Co. The second bale sold for 66 1/2 cents a pound to James Hobbs, 44 1/2 pounds, totaling 292 60 dollars. Bill Hessler and Leon Rice raised the bonus money.

Sunshot Victim Taken To Texas For Burial
The body of Charles Elton Taylor, 36, of 508 W. Scar bauer Hobbs, was moved to Breckenridge Texas after services at Griffin Funeral Home in Hobbs. The coroner's inquest ruled gunshot wounds caused his death from a gunshot on Thursday evening but did not identify the shooter. He is survived by his widow Montie and two daughters Gloria Jean and Betty Ann. Funeral services will be in Breckenridge followed by burial.

Secretary of State Dean Acheson says the Western powers including the United States expect agreement soon on an American plan to include Western Germany in a European defense force.
