A citation was issued to Erick Eckes of 410% W Clinton after his 1938 Oldsmobile struck Dan Waller’s scooter at Hobbs on Tuesday for failure to yield the right of way. Waller, of 701 E Dunham St, Hobbs, sustained $25 in scooter damage. Eckes’s car suffered no damage.

Lovington School Enrollment Rises Six Percent
Enrollment on the second day this year reaches 2,532, up from 2,285 last year, a little over 6 percent rise. Ten pupils are in the special class for exceptional children. Enrollment continues this week with over 150 more expected before September 15, and every available classroom is in use.
First Lea County Cotton Placed On Courthouse Lawn
Kenneth Norris deposited the first bale of Acala cotton on Lovington’s courthouse lawn at 9 50 am Tuesday. The 510 pound bale, ginned at Custom Number One, earns Norris 400 in cash prizes and 200 in merchandise from town merchants, making him at least 600 richer.

State Polio Total Now 77

Slight Damage To Beauchamp Car
The 1953 Mercury owned by W. M. Beauchamp sustained minor damage estimated at 10 to 15 dollars after Sacra Bros. truck backed into it Tuesday at about 4 23 p m. The truck driven by William Lee Tucker was at a red light when the Mercury, driven by Margaret Wilson 16, stopped behind it and was struck as the truck rolled back. No damage to the truck was reported.

Jack L. Gerwick 30 of Hobbs died in a two car crash near Plains Texas on Tuesday. Funeral services are Thursday at 3 p m with Griffin Funeral Service in charge. He leaves a wife, one son, one daughter, his stepfather and mother, one sister and two grandmothers. Also killed was Glen Edward Chapman 21 of Plains. Her husband and 18 month old son were injured in the collision.
