Two Men Die In Head-On Crash Near Hobbs-Seminole
Sunday early morning crash on the Hobbs Seminole highway killed John Alton Smith 33 of Hobbs and Floyd Daniel Truman 44 of Eunice. Smith, a sub contractor for Gunter Constructions, left a widow and three other relatives. Truman, an oil company oiler, left a wife and four daughters. Funeral services were planned in Hobbs and Eunice with Griffin Funeral Home handling arrangements.

Bomber Crash Lands Near Tatum Thursday
A P-50 bomber from the 97th Bomb Wing crash landed in a pasture 35 miles southwest of Tatum Thursday night. All 10 airmen aboard escaped injury after losing engines and contact for over an hour during a routine training flight from Biggs AFB El Paso. Local and state law enforcement joined the search and recovered the crew including Maj Raymond Gottner the aircraft commander.

Local Carpenter Faces Trial Under New DWI Law
Roy Pinchback of Lovington, a carpenter, will be the first person charged under New Mexico's new drunk driving law in Lea County. He was arrested Friday night about 10 near Hobbs Highway, driving Elvis Greenwood's car. Greenwood and passenger Bill Alford also faced drunkenness charges with 30 days in jail. Pinchback has prior DWI convictions in Texas and Town Court. Bound over to district court with a $500 bond, the case marks the law's July 1 start. no injuries were reported. Ray Casselberry aided in the arrest.

C E Renshaw brought in Lea County’s first bale of 1958 seed cotton. He farms near Lovington on the Agnes Hibbets place and delivered 2000 pounds of seed cotton ginning to about 550 600 pounds. Leon Rice of the Lovington Co operative Gin said another bale may arrive soon and predicted a strong season despite hail dry weather and insects.
