Carl Ernest Sams aged 73 died September 27 1951 at his Lovington home. Funeral services were held September 29 at Smith Yarbro Chapel with pastor Garnie Atkinson officiating. Burial followed in Lovington Cemetery. He leaves a widow Adah Thomas a daughter and two grandchildren and several sisters. He was an early Lea County settler a rancher and member of the First Christian Church and Mason Lodge. His Anchor D brand has been in the family since 1984.
