California late returns place Wilson ahead as Democrats gain added strength in nationwide contest. The report notes New Hampshire and New Mexico moving into the Democratic column as vote tallies shift.
Early unofficial returns place Wilson ahead with 276 electoral votes to Hughes 245. New Hampshire adds 70 electoral votes for Wilson while Wisconsin and New Mexico tilt toward him. California shows a tight margin with Republican Rowell seeking a recount. Legal observers monitor counts across states as round-the-clock tallies continue.
In New York and across the nation incomplete returns place the Democrats with a firm Senate majority and a narrow House edge. Results list 215 Democrats to 211 Republicans with one Independent one Socialist one Progressive and one Progressive Protectorist elected. several districts remain undecided.
In Wyoming Frank W. Mondell Republican is re elected by a small but safe majority in the congressional campaign. Governor John B Kendrick, the present Democratic governor, is elected to the United States Senate over Clarence D. Clark Republican.
Oliver W. Stewart national prohibition campaign manager says drys added Michigan South Dakota Nebraska and Montana to the dry column. He notes Arkansas saved to nineteen dry states and cites Utah governor election as path to prohibition by statute. He also hails South Dakota woman suffrage victory aiding enforcement.
Denver reports no change in Colorado's congressional delegation as all four districts reelected their representatives. Rep Timberlake holds the Second district as a Republican, while Democrats Hilliard in the First, Keating in the Third, and Taylor in the Fourth secured another two-year term, with Hilliard defeating Republican Vaile by about 4000 votes.
James R. Mann of Chicago, long targeted by the Second Illinois district, wins a declared 10,000 plurality for the House minority leadership. In West Virginia, suffrage amendment fails on early returns from Charleston.
New Mexico has 78,485,760 acres with half public land and 14,000,000 acres state land. Only one in forty acres is cultivated and one in ten irrigated, with irrigation expanding under reclamation projects. Copper dominates mineral output, followed by gold, with coal values high in western fields and near Cerrillos.
Santa Fe State Treasurer QO. N Marron receives New Mexico’s forest revenue share totaling 45 846 33 for the last fiscal year. Ten percent funds roads while 25 percent splits between road and school programs in counties with national forest areas. In Santa Fe a jury returned a verdict for the defense after a 24 hour deliberation in the suit of Charles I. Brown administrator for Steve Minerich estate against Vietor American Fuel Company. Minerich allegedly died from electrocution by a live wire while working for the company and the plaintiff claimed negligence. The defendant denied negligence.
Estancia shipped fourteen cars of beans this week from the station, eleven new plus three earlier cars. The cars averaged 40 000 pounds and brought growers from 6 to 6 45 per 100 pounds, totaling about 54 000 dollars.
A check for 416,804.82 covering settlements for October from state lands was sent to the state treasury by State Land Commissioner Robert P. Ervien. It marks the largest monthly remittance in state land office history, surpassing last year by 184,140.18, and indicating fiscal year receipts will reach at least 750,000 and may hit 800,000.
Word reaches Tucumcari of a native near Bonitacafion fatally injured by a dynamite box. He was digging in a box with caps and about 50 pounds of dynamite when it exploded tearing arms hands eyes and a large stomach wound. He survived several days before death. Also in Grant County Santa Fe an unidentified white man was mortally wounded by Watchman Lucio Trezbio at a lumber plant in Silver City.
Karl Chaney posted a $5,000 bond after arrest in connection with a shooting affray at Hachita that left Frank Stedham dead. The case proceeds under Santa Fe authorities.
