Phillip B. Robinson assumes charge of the Lovington Agency Insurance division on November 16 after purchasing the unit from Weldon J. Cox. The Lovington Real Estate partnership of Cox and J. B. Martin continues, with Robinson focusing on insurance and the duo expanding real estate services for Lovington and surrounding Lea County.
Ida B Gaither a Lea County pioneer who opened the first furniture store in Lovington and helped establish Sunday school services in Monument is buried beside her husband. Funeral services were held November 13 at Smith Yarbro Chapel with Rev Ray Ross officiating. Burial followed in Lovington Cemetery. Survivors include son Jack Gaither daughter Mrs John Milligan two grandchildren and two sisters.
The UN in Tokyo cites Communist Korea atrocities with 12 790 UN prisoners killed including 5 560 Americans. Reports say 2 563 American prisoners, 7 000 South Koreans, 40 Turks, 10 Britons, five Belgians and 75 others killed. 250 000 Korean civilians victims. Marine mass execution noted. Fighting continues as negotiators threaten ultimatums. Gen Van Fleet optimistic about capability. In local prep sports, Wildcats edge Jal Panthers 14 12 as Battles and Black score. Lovington set to face Ft Sumner Foxes on Thanksgiving Day, with town rallying behind the team.
Four month old Juan Mesa son of a Mexican farm worker died Monday evening at Lea County Community hospital from malnutrition. The infant was the youngest of seven children. Since their mother’s death two weeks earlier a 12 year old girl cared for five siblings, while two others were sent to relatives in Texas. Five year old Maura Mesa remains in hospital with pneumonia but is not in critical condition.
Roswell district attorney N. R. Reese of the Fifth Judicial District announces candidacy for the 1952 state election. His bid is subject to the May 6 Democratic primary. Warren Snyder, recently dismissed from Lea County Hospital, is improved and back at work in Hobbs.
Public health and school nurses from Lea Eddy and Chaves counties met Friday in Carlsbad in the Southern Union Gas community room starting at 10 AM. Fifteen nurses attended led by Dr O E Puckett with delegates including Miss Beryl Kaigler and Miss Camille Byers of Levington. A joint session followed at 1 30 PM featuring a safety talk by State Patrolman Kenneth Hall with Lea County attendees Bob Huston and Carl Crutchfield of Lovington.
Grady Richards named to fill vacancy on the REA board per manager R B Moore. He works at Lovington Field Service and is brother of Mayor Slim Richards. REA holds a November 19 special meeting to open bids on engine removal and foundation replacement after a faulty foundation led to contractual issues.
The New Mexico P M A State Conference was held in Albuquerque November 6 and 7 at the El Fidel Hotel to discuss the 1952 Soil Conservation program. Representatives from Washington DC and other states attended. About two hundred people participated, including Lovington PMA officials James Robinson Roy Lee Conner Hudgens L C Green Ray Johnson and County Agent T C Perkins.
Sheriff Charlie Trimble has no jailor after Roy Keller left on November 9. The position pays one salary instead of two but still offers its best points. applicants are invited to apply for the post.
The second session of the November term of District Court will open on Monday November 19 with Tadee Pow Anorsin officiating.
Miss Betty Sue Barton daughter of Mr and Mrs D M Barton of Buckeye was crowned Wildcat Queen at the homecoming game between the Wildcats and the Jal Panthers on November 9. Attendants were Miss Patsy Edwards of Mallamar and Miss Emily Taylor of Maljamar. Bennie Barnes and Jerry Cooper Wildcats Captains placed the crown.
Lea County sheriff's department reports four Mexicans illegally in the United States were apprehended and returned to Mexico by Border Patrol. The group, including an old man, a young man, his wife, and son, allegedly stole a trunk with money, passports, clothing, and insurance papers from a legally resident group near Lovington. Deputy James Robinson notes the men had previously stayed at the house of the legal workers while they visited Encino.
Lea County Sheriff Cliff Trimble reports two people, Willie Parks and his wife, arrested Sunday for possession of marijuana. They were living in Lovington's colored section and found with about three ounces of marijuana in a cigar box. The couple, described as Negroes, will be turned over to the FBI after a sur prise raid by local authorities.
Carl Breen, Lee Curry, and David Cowes left this week for Colorado to spend the week deer hunting, planning return later this month.
Wilshire Oil Company reports a Wolfcamp lime discovery in Lea County at its Number 1 Town wildcat six and a half miles east of Lovington. The drillstem test at 10,415 to 10,480 feet flowed oil at 20-30 bph with gas lifting, muding up, and no water, while a prior test at 10,185 to 10,211 feet showed production potential. The well aims to reach 12,000 feet to test Devonian productivity and may drill deeper before completing any pay. Location is section 1-16s-35e, Lea County.
Funeral services for Boon Hardin were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday November 14 1951 at Smith Yarbro Chapel with Rev. Hugh Harris and Garnie Atkis officiating. Survivors include widow Wallye Hardin son John Hardin and siblings Wagner Olin Rosa. The procession to Lovington Cemetery was led by the Sheriff’s Posse.
About 750 people attended Lovington Municipal Schools open house during National Education Week. Parents visited classrooms and upper grades followed a 10 minute schedule. art and music rooms were seen. A 30 minute power outage caused some to leave before refreshments. cake and coffee later served to more than 500. Superintendent H. C. Pannel cited an overload on a circuit as the cause.

Mrs Bill Lewis and Willie Cook spent Friday in Las Cruces. Mrs Betty Higgins, daughter of Mrs Lewis, accompanied them returning home after living in Arizona for several months.
Sheriff Charlie Trimble reported a 14 year old boy was sent to Springer after repeated unruly behavior at the Lea County jail. The youth harmed bars with a heat source, attempted to hang himself, marking the fourth juvenile moved to reform homes in New Mexico this month, including three to Springer and a girl to the Girls Industrial Home at Los Lunas.
