Three hundred fifty delegates attended the Elephant Butte dam dedication in Elephant Butte New Mexico joined by A A Jones personal representative of President Wilson with Brig Gen George Bell Jr and Brig Gen Charles Morton. The dam cost sixteen million dollars and will generate thirty five thousand horsepower and irrigate about one hundred eighty thousand acres. The reservoir will hold more than two million acre feet of water and extend forty five miles.
Advices from the district forester indicate Arizona forest supervisors report rapid progress in game protection across the state line. In two months cities including Flagstaff, Show Low, Tucson and Payson have formed protective associations following the model of the New Mexico Game Protective Association.
East Las Vegas reports the Cowboys Reunion association has moved its 1917 show from the week of July 4 to the four days starting June 14. The change aims to accommodate better attendance and align events with local schedules.

An American arriving from Chihuahua City reports bandits burned an ore train and destroyed bridges near Ortiz and cut the Mexican Central line. He says Villa troops plan attacks on Varras Jimenez Santa Rosalia Torreon and Chihuahua City. A Carranza official says Gen Maycotte arrived from Torreon with 2200 troops and brought five aeroplanes and two English aviators for use against Villa.
In Tucson Arizona two jockeys and two soldiers were hurt when an exhibition race started before Utah National Guard Battery A cleared the field. Miss Vera McGinnis of Denver suffered injuries and Jesse James, riding Walton stockman’s horse, had a dislocated shoulder and head abrasion. the horse died.
Secretary of Labor Denver William B. Wilson spoke to about 8,000 organized labor members at the Auditorium, delivering remarks on labor policy and worker rights.
President Wilson spoke in Cincinnati in four speeches urging a society of nations to oppose anything harmful to humanity. He warned that without American leadership the United States cannot stay out of the next war.
