President Eisenhower signs the second chance farm bill to launch the soil bank this year. It raises 1956 crop price supports to 76 percent of parity for oats barley grain sorghums and rye, a sharp rise from the 70 percent level previously set. The vetoed bill would have restored supports to 90 percent of parity.
Julian Garcia told police he did not know the pistol was loaded after Ben Quiroz was shot in the neck Sunday while visiting Garcia at 15 N. Eddy. The Spanish automatic discharged during inspection, but doctors at Lovington Clinic said injuries were superficial and Quiroz was released.
Dr Ralph Robey economist urges reducing labor power after criticizing organized labor for unregulated and uncontrolled power in a NAM study on economic conditions. The U S inflation threat cited by NAM representative links unions to rising costs.

Garnett Carl Tweedy formerly of Midland Texas and Hobbs was sentenced to six months in federal prison in Albuquerque after being found guilty of stealing $100 in travellers checks from the First National Bank in Hobbs. The theft occurred December 6 to 13, 1955, and Tweedy faced bank robbery larceny charges in U.S. District Court before Judge Carl A. Hatch.
Seventeen junior boys and girls left Monday for Methodist Camp in the Sacramento Mountains near Cloudcroft. Counselors accompanying the group include Mrs. J. P. Morgan Mrs. Bill Quarles and Charles Hibbets.
In Hobbs Melvin Staton 36 argued with Officer Harvey Allen at 304 West Roxana. He pleaded guilty to assault on a police officer and to disorderly conduct and abusive language, receiving 45 days for the assault and fines on the other charges. He denied DWI and remains jailed on that count with bond set. Mrs Staton filed peace bond proceedings against him.
The FBI added Eugene Newman and Carmine De Biase to its Ten Most Wanted list. Newman, involved in an August Buffalo armored car robbery, wounded a guard and escaped after two accomplices were captured. De Biase is accused of a 1951 NYC club killing while the victim slept. They were captured in Boston two weeks ago.
Four people died in weekend highway crashes raising New Mexico's year to date toll to 132. Two Pecos men, Clyde Bowles and Joe Lopez, were killed when their car left US 85 south of Las Vegas and overturned four times after speeding. Mounted patrols and sheriff posses had been deployed regionally to curb the rising death rate.
The GOP central committee in Albuquerque will choose a new state chairman after M B Johns announced his resignation at the upcoming meeting. Democratic Chairman Tn Brown plans no resignation and will run again if health allows. Bid for re election supported by Governor John F Simms if Brown is fit.
Russia invited General Nathan Twining Air Force Chief to attend a Moscow Soviet air celebration on June 24. The State Department says the invitation is under consideration. Officials discuss a potential visit by all U.S. joint chiefs, but no definite plan exists.
The House Committee on un American Activities calls Paul Robeson to testify Tuesday on passport irregularities by communist sympathizers. Witnesses Henry Willox and Otto Nathan will also appear with Willox linked to foreign born protection efforts and World Peace Congress roles.
The First Christian Church parsonage has been redecorated for the incoming minister C. E. Shep hard and his family who arrive June 20 from Mt. Vernon Illinois. Roy J. King remains interim minister in Lovington until Shep hard arrives. The church’s old section is being converted into classrooms and will gain brick facing to match the sanctuary.
Senator Stuart Symington won formal backing from Missouri Democrats as the state convention in Jefferson City pledged its 38 votes. He indicated openness to the boost while Kefauver campaigned hard across Florida ahead of Tuesday’s primary as Stevenson moved to California for California voting and a distant contest.
A. W. Rocky Payne, Lovington resident and state police officer since 1951, is highlighted in the New Mexico Law magazine. The issue features two Payne photos and a brief bio noting his devotion to duty and family at his Van Buren residence with wife Layde Gret and three children.
