Mrs. Frederion ft de Sanchez shot and killed Desiderio Dialbando on a main Mora County street after an alleged drunken dispute. The shooting followed an encounter with Dialbando and a female companion. Sanchez was arrested and released on $2000 bond.
San Marcial Juan Romero shot Jesus Herrera believed to betray his daughter Patricia after returning home he fired a shot into Patricia's head leaving a serious wound. The girl had become a mother on Wednesday and Herrera recently married a Val Verde woman. Romero confessed to brooding over the affair and is jailed at Socorro.
Las Vegas reports Emery and Coursey, indicted for the murder of Clyde Wiggins, receives a sentence of two and a half to four years in the state penitentiary. He may stand trial on the murder indictment at the next term. Also, a cattle theft conviction at the Mora county term was handed to another defendant. Andres Babell’s case for forcing a Solan woman to marry him was dismissed after the woman consented to wed Babell in a justice of the peace ceremony.
Governor McDonald seeks reprieve for Vedro Montes and Lauein C Hightower who faced hanging for murder in Silver City. The Supreme Court ordered District Judge Neblett to show cause within ten days why appeals should not be granted. Reprieve remains until the matter is settled by the Supreme Court.
A telegram from Santa Fe requests the President to urge the governor to reprieve seven Villista bandits condemned to hang on May 19 for murder in the Columbus raid. J. C. Starr, sentenced to hang for the murder of Sheriff Stephens, has filed an appeal.
Coroner's jury finds despondency caused the death of Amandus Kelm, well known Silver City resident and former Rough Rider. He swallowed a fatal dose of cyanide of potassium. death was instantaneous.
Ten Mexicans have been killed in the last weeks by American soldiers who caught them cutting the field telegraph wire in the region. The reports say wire cutting has ceased since the killings appeared to stop further activity.
The two year old son of Ben Akers of Bear Creek ranch was burned to death at Qe ranch when left alone on a bed. Upon return the bed was in flames and the child succumbed shortly after. Authorities suspect the child ignited matches found in a coat pocket.
Western Newspaper Union reports that after El Paso talks broke down Washington defers to diplomatic discussion. Gen Scott reports a gentleman's understanding with Mexican war minister on border raiding while Pershing's expedition remains in Mexico. National guard mobilization continues along the border as officials await fresh orders. Carranza envoy Arredondo and Secretary Lansing hold off on renewed talks.
British official reports say about ten yards of trenches near Vermelles were captured by German forces on Thursday night, then partially retaken by British counter attack. Paris dispatch notes a German assault near Haudremont wood and Vaux repelled by five French cannons. Subsequent reports claim Russians retreating toward the Caucasus while British and other fronts shift with peace overtures and a Colorado labor case appeals in the Supreme Court.
Berlin reports via Petrograd and Bucharest that Gregory Rasputin the Russian monk famed for influencing Emperor Nicholas II has been assassinated according to Overseas News agency dispatches.
James Connolly and John McDermott were shot in connection with the uprising, identified as conspirators. The executions underscored the crackdown on dissent during the rebellion.
