Monument Man Arrested Twice During 36 Hours
A 58 year old Monument man Clarence Pittman was arrested in Hobbs first for driving while intoxicated while driving from Seminole Texas to Hobbs. He posted a 125 dollar bond and was to appear in court but election day caused a postponement. He was arrested again at 210 am Wednesday on a second charge of public intoxication and pleaded not guilty with a municipal court hearing set for Thursday afternoon.

Smallest Dallas Quad Dies After Meningitis Fight
The smallest of Dallas quadruplet girls, Melanie Fay Hunter, died aged two pounds one ounce after showing meningitis symptoms. Born to Mr and Mrs George Hunter April 30 and May 1, they were Dallas's first quadruplets. Melanie died about 5 p.m. Monday at Methodist Hospital after a brief rally.

Ray Haines 42 of 210 Yeso Drive Hobbs remains in good condition at Lea General Hospital after a collision with a B and J bulk truck driven by Elmer Cleveland at Harden Boulevard and Turner Street. Patrolman Duane Peters filed charges of careless driving against Haines and failure to yield against Cleveland.
