Lovington prepares for a town election on April 4 with two tickets possible if Dr. Hilton W. Gillett delays. If he seeks a second term he may face no opposition, with reports of a draft for another term. The Leader notes two years of harmony under current administration, highlighting water and sewer systems, paving progress, and other milestones.
Former Hobbs mayor J. Paul Heard III remains confined to his Hobbs home after being released from Clovis Hospital. He had entered the hospital soon after a Curry County jury acquitted him last Saturday. Heard left hospital Monday and returned home to Hobbs.
All Lovington area school bus drivers met in the new gym music room on Wednesday March 22 for a refresher course led by State Transportation Director J T Reece. Mrs Reece plans three separate courses in the county at Hobbs Tatum and Lovington.
Hobbs resident Naomi Hogue has petitions filed across the state to secure the Democratic nomination for secretary of state. A 1946 legislative candidate, she finished last among five contestants, and she works for the Lea County Bank in Hobbs.

L. S. Booker of Hobbs confessed to giving a $1,000 bribe and received a five to seven year sentence in Roswell on Monday night from District Judge George T. Har3. Booker pled guilty to the bribe on February 3 with sentence withheld pending Heard bribery trial. He left the state after release and has been jailed since August 1.
The House Appropriations Committee pushes a single package omnibus bill to Congress aiming to curb spending. It forecasts a 1951 deficit near four billion despite reductions across most agencies, with FBI funding boosted to aid espionage and a DC operations allotment of 12 million. Chairman Cannon plans House debate next week. Senate action and presidential approval remain required.

Joella Robinson and John Catching lead a quiet title action against the heirs of D H Watkins. The complaint seeks establishment of ownership rights and resolution of competing claims to the property. The filing indicates ongoing litigation in the property dispute.
Sen Claude Gamble announces his bid for lieutenant governor amid a split field. Rep Theodore Rozzell promotes a pro labor agenda statewide, citing his record of supporting 25 labor bills as a representative.
Roy W. Erwin of the Veterans Administration will visit Hobbs on Monday March 27 1950. Veterans and dependents from Hobbs and nearby areas are invited to call on Erwin at the State Employment Office in Hobbs between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. for information or assistance with veterans benefits.
The public is invited to a free lecture on the Christian Science way of obedience to Divine Law. Under the auspices of the Christian Science Society of Hobbs the talk will be at the church on 901 N Turner St on Tuesday April 4 1950. James Harry McReynolds of Dallas Texas a member of the mother church board of lectureship will deliver.
Lea County farmers urged to join the 1950 Agricultural Conservation Program to protect soil, enhance productivity, and share costs. The Lea County PMA lists approved practices with payments including green manures, permanent pastures, subsoiling, irrigation dam enlargement, ditch lining, pipes, water storage, erosion control, rangeland wells, and fence work with a April 30 1950 signup deadline and prior approval required.
