New Scout Executive Named for Conquistador Council
Karl J. Schreiner, formerly of Laredo Texas, is hired as director of field service for Conquistador Council Boy Scouts of America with headquarters in Roswell. Schreiner began scouting in 1942 and has served in several Texas communities. He and his wife Freda and children will move to Roswell after April first. In addition, Lea General Hospital reported multiple Hobbs area crash fatalities with several injured, including Lubbock teens and Carlsbad residents, with an inquest underway.

Born in Texas she moved to Lea County in 1918 and joined the First Christian Church. Surviving are husband FE B Parsons son Donald five daughters Frances Mitchell Shreveport LA Minnie McCall Lovington Virginia Autry Lovington Mary Mantone Lubbock TX Mrs Paul Pearsall Hobbs 13 grandchildren three sisters and three brothers. Casket bearers include Frank Teas John Campbell Al Strong John Cook G A Fisher and Fred Cox. Burial will be at Levington Cemetery with Rev Ray J King and Rev Hugh Marris officiating.

Lea Resident Since 1938 Dies in Hobbs
Mrs. Jennie Huston Shaffer a longtime Hobbs resident died Sunday morning at Lea General Hospital after a period of illness. Born July 22 1868 in Marshall Illinois she moved to Hobbs from Seminole Oklahoma in 1938. She belonged to the First Presbyterian Church Eastern Star and Royal Neighbors. Survived by a daughter Mrs D B Treadwell and a grandson Dan Ed. Services at 10 a m Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev James Hall officiating. Burial in Snyder Oklahoma Wednesday at 10 a m. Pallbearers Jerry Jernigan Harry Jernican Norman Fee A J McQuiston H J Murphy and Ivan Davis. Green Funeral Chapel in charge.

A dispute over a man taking another man s wife to the movies led to the arrest of 26 year old Hobbson on charges of disorderly conduct and destruction of private property. Police say Raymond Woods of 522 E White St accused Bobby Jackson of taking his wife to a movie then threw a rock at Jackson s car denting a fender.

Hold Two Men For Shell Pipe Theft
Two men from Clovis and Eunice were arrested in Hereford Texas on Saturday and charged with grand larceny. Robert L. Dennis 24 of Clovis and Elmo Jones 39 of Eunice face charges for stealing Shell Pipe Line Co property near Hobbs on February 24. The stolen items valued at more than 50 dollars.

A Masonic ring with the initials JKJ and the inscription University of Texas along with a pair of yellow gold earrings were found near the Harden Hotel in Hobbs this weekend. The items were turned over to police to be returned to the owner upon identification.
