Lovington hosts a new canning plant planning to operate with full intent this season. Plans call for canning sweet potatoes and tomatoes with local growers, as tomato crops could yield substantial profits. Promoters seek an expert canner to lead operations to ensure a busy season.
On Friday evening at the home of C O Gilley Justice Forrester officiated as Miss Mary Gilley wed O T Weed in a small ceremony attended by immediate relatives and friends. The Bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C O Gilley noted for her many Lovington friends. The groom is a respected local man known for his steady demeanor. The Lovington Leader extends best wishes and gifts a one year subscription.
George Chestnutt, son of J. S. Chestnutt, was accidentally shot Saturday February 21 while climbing into a wagon on the road home from Lake Arthur. The bullet entered left chest, exited near the stomach, narrowly missing the heart. He was taken to Lake Arthur for care and is in a precarious condition.
Washington D C February 23. H B Fergusson notes a vast petition in favor of the 640 acre homestead bill and requests delaying land segregation in New Mexico until the bill’s fate is decided. He will present the petition to the Committee of Public Lands on March 3 and seeks Interior Secretary action despite cattlemen’s opposition.
Regular appointment at Baptist Church of Monument draws an appreciative audience. Families and visitors from Lovington and Pearl recount visits, marriages, and births around February 26. Notable notes include Mrs Phillips welcoming a son, Dr. Black’s return, and Claire Kyle selling his ranch to Harry Huston amid community updates.

B A Christmas Claire Kyle and Charlie Wier traveled to the western part of the state seeking a new site. The trip used Charlie Wier’s car and Steve Taylor of Hobbs was in town on the 25th on business before a U S Commissioner.
Lakewood writes about Arthur Rowland Lewis Rowland and Sam Howell, three energetic young men who rented land from E C Cook to farm. They plan twenty five acres of tomatoes and other crops on the Camp house property in the southeast part of town. They aim to prove the value of boy farmers over other professions.
Report by W R Crockett covers a February Warren singing convention at ien's Chapel with 300 plus in attendance. Leaders include T C Herrington Will McClish Lem Haggerson Green Houston Biles Lambert Benson Dura Owen Hoyrocket Reed Harris and Prof Clabourne. A large dinner fed the crowd, and the May gathering is noted at McDonald with listed singers and banner song numbers.
