U S Department of Agriculture tests found no significant performance difference between 12 to 18 inch wide rims for 26 inch 6 ply tires. With water filling to rim top, 18 inch rims carried more load and offered greater drawbar pull. Lower inflation at 8 psi improved efficiency and pull on dry sand, though sidewall wrinkling increased, more on narrower rims.
