Don Walser and Max Evans Ties in Lea County History Notebook
Jim Harris recalls Don Walser the Pavarotti of the Plains and his Texas Panhandle roots linked to Max Evans. The piece traces Walser’s career from Brownfield to Amarillo and Austin, his appearances with the Pure Texas Band, and his role in The Hi Lo Country. It notes Evans’ Folsom jukebox memory shaping the film’s music and the Lea County Museum’s Max Evans Room.
