A new 169 page study by Ira Rinehart, compiled with Charles E. Terry, surveys New Mexico oil history from the Artesia Field in Eddy County to Lea County’s growing role. It notes 71 new NM discoveries in six years, 607 NM wells in 1950 with 123 dry, 88 gas, 396 producing oil, and highlights Lea’s accelerating output and Pennsylvanian reservoir prospects in the Permian Basin.

Driver Receives Fine in Darden Grocery Crash
Stephen O. Dinkins pleaded guilty to reckless driving and leaving the scene after a 49 Ford crashed into Darden Grocery at 2 am Sunday. Two plate glass windows broke, $100 damage noted. Dinkins jailed after failing to post bond and kept for fine payment. Jackie Lee of Lovington owned the car and aided cleanup and damage settlement.

Graveside Rites Held For Infant McClannahan Son
Funeral services were held at Prairie Haven Cemetery in Hobbs for infant Michael Eugene McClannahan. Born Friday at Lea County Hospital, the stillborn son of Mr and Mrs E J McClannahan of Eunice, he was survived by the parents and grandparents Sallie Rhodes of Shreveport Louisiana and Mr and Mrs W C McClannahan of Abilene Texas.
