Wild chase ends in arrest as Hobbs youth cops car theft link
A 20 year old Hobbs youth led officers on a 20 minute high speed chase through residential streets at 50 to 75 mph. After shots were fired, the car was found abandoned near Linary and Sanger. FBI Special Agent Carnes is probing the alleged bill of sale and possible Dyre Act violation. Lea County plans courthouse remodeling with a bond issue to add two courtrooms and a new wing to serve next decade.

Truck Driver Robbed of 86 Dollars in Hobbs
O P Shoopman of Bartlesville Oklahoma, a Millstead Van Lines driver, reported to Hobbs police that between 2 p.m. Thursday and 3 30 a.m. Friday a man robbed him of 86 dollars. He said after parking his truck he ate at a cafe and drank a beer at Bank Bar. He was knocked from a car near his truck at 3 30 a.m. and notified police, but could not identify the car’s driver. Only the money was taken. papers and billfold remained. The belt chain to the billfold was broken.

Hobbs Man Jailed After Passing Bad Checks
H. Whitlock 29 of 409 S Third Hobbs was jailed by Hobbs police on a charge of issuing worthless checks. Authorities say he passed two bad checks for 10 and 5 dollars on August 29 and 30 1955 at Franklin's Store Hobbs. He had no bank account when the checks were issued and was arrested on a warrant issued January 19 by Justice of the Peace Robert Bensing.

Two Hobbs Crashes Cause About 485 In Damages
Property damage totaling 485 dollars occurred in Hobbs in two separate crashes on Thursday. The first at Dunham and Dalmont involved a 1949 Ford driven by Max Brautigan and a 1956 Plymouth. the Ford sustained 150 dollars and the Plymouth 300 dollars in damage. The second crash at Yeso and Fowler involved a 1954 Chevrolet driven by Woodrow Huston and a car driven by Kenneth Stahnke. Huston’s car sustained 150 dollars and Stahnke’s 85 dollars. Huston was cited for failure to yield to oncoming traffic.
