Cotton Caravan to Visit Lovington for Cotton Week Program
The event runs Saturday February 28 at the Lea County Fair Build ing open at 9 a m for exhibits and 10 a m program with County Agent Leader Dallas Rierson and experts from USDA and Extension. Speakers cover Lea County water studies fertilizer use disease control and cotton varieties plus an insect control talk. A noon steak dinner precedes talks on cotton varieties and an automatic cotton sampler. An afternoon session includes cotton classing and seed planting discussions, with a late question period. Open House for a new two bedroom home follows March 1 to March 7 hosted by Lawton Construction.

Douglas Kirkman, a widower, died at Lea County Hospital at 2:30 AM on February 24, 1953 after injuries from a Christmas Eve auto accident. His body was moved overland to Clarksville Texas for burial. Survived by daughter Mrs. Horace Marsh of Lovington.
