Final Rites Held For Floretta Garner
Floretta Garner died February 22 at Lea General Hospital Hobbs. Funeral services were held Thursday at 2 p.m. from East Side Church of Christ with Bro J H Gilmore officiating. Interment followed in Lovington Cemetery. Survivors include husband Will Garner plus several children grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Detour Violators Fined In Tatum Highway Crackdown

Supreme Court Upholds Massey Conviction in Rape of Dog
The State Supreme Court upheld a district court sentence of 7 to 10 years for Chas. P. Massey after a July 23, 1953 trial. Massey, held in Lea County jail since early this year, will be moved to the State Penitentiary when arrangements are made, per Sheriff Jewell McAdoo. His defense was by two court appointed attorneys Randolph Reese of Hobbs and a former district attorney.

Largest GOP Convention Expected in New Mexico
United Press reports the two biggest GOP county delegations Santa Fe with 85 members and Bernalillo will attend the state pre primary convention uninstructed on February 26 and 27 in Santa Fe. Alva A. Simpson Jr. seeks governor on the ballot needing 259 votes with support claims from Bernalillo and Santa Fe counties. Lovington 4-H girls met at the Bull Barn with sixteen present for a regular monthly business session. County extension agent Mrs. Mary Jo Carlton distributed project and record books for the coming year as tentative plans and a fund raising drive were discussed and National 4-H Club Week was noted. The next meeting is set for March 19 and is open to all interested.

Loving ton voters approved a $600000 school bond on Feb 23 with 271 in favor 31 against and five mutilated ballots from 307 total. The architect will prepare general plans and specifications for four new units funded by the bond, bids expected around May 1, with use not before September 1955.
