Rural Electric Costs Hit Lowest Level in REA History

Gene Parks Freed From Prison Term
Gene Parks the younger brother of Speight Parks, involved in the Roosevelt County jail case, has been released from custody after a partial suspension of his sentence. He was convicted on February 16, 1952 for breaking into a farm house and stealing five guns. The court suspended the remainder of his term, following a habeas corpus grant by District Judge Carmody. Parks and two companions had served eight months. Knowles and Nix were acquitted. The case follows community anger over Speight Parks’s murder and marks Gene’s second clemency, as his brother had earlier been freed on murder charges.

Services Today For Hobbs Church Of God Pioneer W M Ford
Funeral services are held at 2 p m today at the Church of God in Hobbs for Rev William M Ford 73 a retired Church of God minister who died Sunday at his Hobbs home after a long illness. Interment will be in Prairie Haven. He had organized several churches and aided in founding the Church of God at Carlsbad. Surviving are his wife two daughters a stepdaughter a stepson and six others with a sister from Dallas visiting prior to his death.
