M Ancell and Son Die Nineteen Era Obituary
Mrs Ancell and son Steve aged ten fell ill at a ranch and were brought home for care. Steve died Monday evening and Mrs Ancell followed to rest Wednesday evening. Rev Jenkins and Rev Cunning led funeral and cemetery services with Rebekah Lodge Woodmen Circle assisting. The Ancell family moved to Lovington in 1911 and ran the Ancell store and ranch interests. Meningitis Cases Rise To Epidemic Levels In Texas
In October two cerebro spinal meningitis cases appeared in several Texas locations. By January first the cases and infected spots had grown to epidemic proportions. Dallas was hardest hit with severe spread while others suffered. Meningitis is an inflammation of the brain and spinal cord membranes caused by a germ entering through the nose or mouth, producing severe pain and fever with neck rigidity, delirium, and coma.
