R D Yoakum of St Louis plans a large pumping plant in Portales Valley to irrigate up to a thousand acres. The system uses a fifty horsepower engine delivering 2 950 gallons per minute, supplying one acre foot of water at about seventy five cents from a 50 foot well. Yoakum has prepared land for irrigation with several fields plowed to ten to fifteen inches, aiming to place a thousand acres under cultivation.
