B T Hill REA linesman stationed at Tatum was electrocuted near a Baptist church site. He hung from the pole with a safety belt after a high voltage shock. Virgil Green alerted authorities. Funeral services were held Sunday at Tatum First Baptist Church for Ebert L Hurst 65 who had lived in Tatum and with son Charles W operated the Hurst Grocery. He died after asthma and heart illness. Burial was in Tatum Cemetery. Survivors include his wife and two sons Charles W and Elbert Jr. with families.

Big Shrine Circus Comes to Hobbs August 24 and 25

Oilfield worker dies in early Friday crash near Hobbs
Eugene Murphy 27 of Seagraves Texas died after a 3 am collision at the State Highways 83 and 132 intersection seventeen miles north of Hobbs on the Denver City Highway. Eldon Gerber 24 of Lovington was jailed on man slaughter charges with passenger Pierce Gene Oliver 19 uninjured.
