Southeastern Baptist Association Organized in New Mexico

Messengers from Lovington Knowles Monument and other churches gathered to form the Southeastern Baptist Association with eleven member churches. Rev. J. M. Roden named Moderator and Rev. O. Barber Clerk. Alldredge lectured on life of Christ and later on Mexicans and Oldtimers. Home mission collection raised 31.95. The group expressed optimism about progress in the region.

Lee Glascock and wife drove from Roswell to El Paso in a Chalmers 30 taking 14 hours with minor rock obstacles near Ruidoso. They praised the route as a viable southern link to a transcontinental touring network and bought a 1912 Buick Model 43 f.o.b. Roswell for 1950 dollars to be driven to El Paso.

Lovington Opens Subscription School With Nine Month Term

A subscription school started last Monday with solid enrollments. Mrs. J. C. Johnson teaches for a two month term, contributing to a nine month Lovington school year. The board anticipates three first grade teachers next term and expects families from ranches to move in for schooling.

New County of Hinkle Promises Political Upset

Peel Valley News reports the creation of Hin kle county with Hope as seat. Hugh Gage introduced the bill, supported by Sen. Hinkle and several Republicans. If passed, the county will borrow up to 10000 dollars for buildings and 5000 for expenses, with officers appointed by the governor within 90 days and serving until the next general election.
