Traffic Toll Increases With Weekend Deaths In New Mexico
New Mexico 1953 traffic toll rises by five to 85 over the weekend. Three young men from White Sands died in a head on crash including 25 year olds Jose Perez and Gregorio Zamora and 24 year old Robert Castados. Alick Morrison 22 died 25 miles west of Deming in a two car crash. Alex Abeyta 44 died in Santa Fe from injuries after a rollover at a rail crossing.

False Theft Report Lands Two in Jail
T J Brown and Mrs Kedamaxine Fikes were each sentenced to 30 days in jail after admitting co habitation. Judge John W Green presided Monday. Sheriff Trimble said Brown claimed guns and silverware were stolen, but they were found in Mrs Fikes’s possession and not stolen. both faced charges of vagrancy with a $500 cash bond posted.

Final Rites Held for Tatum Infant Michael Dean Kennedy
Funeral services for 12 month old Michael Dean Kennedy of Tatum were held Saturday at 2 PM with Rev. Joe Bickley officiating. The infant died in a Denver hospital April 8 and was brought to Levington Friday night. Survivors include Mr. and Mrs. Bill Kennedy. Funeral services were held Sunday for Alfred G. Rushing known as Allie owner of the Caprock Store and Lea county old timer. He died April 11 1953 at 77 born December 16 1876 in Ashland Louisiana survived by his widow and seven sons with many grandchildren and a long list of honorary pallbearers. Burial was at Lovington Cemetery.
