Retail Merchants Planning Committee plans a downtown Krazy Daze for Wednesday October 16 pending merchant support. The event would mimic successful area towns with craziest dress prizes and sidewalk sales while promoting local shopping and community involvement.
Rep. Wilbur Mills urged passage of the 11 billion tax cut arguing it reduces central government power and spurs job growth. GOP leaders warned defeat of anti spending strings would endanger final passage as votes loom. Curtis urged fiscal restraint while Bow praised Mills’ persuasive case.
Alfonso Esquibel 52 of Liano NM died Monday night after being struck by a car driven by Robert Harrell Corbett 45 of Dalhart TX. Corbett said Esquibel ran into the road and he did not see him until the collision around 9 p.m. The death toll for the state reaches 253 for the year, vs 306 a year earlier.
Secretary of State Rusk will host Soviet Foreign Minister Gromyko and British Foreign Secretary Home at a working lunch in Washington for talks on Berlin and East West tensions. A 3 nation session follows a Senate vote approving U S adherence to the nuclear pact. Indonesia Malaysia and Southeast Asia are also discussed as risks to U S aid and regional stability.
The Pershing missile launched from Blanding Utah reached White Sands New Mexico during a two week testing series. A second firing was planned later this day as the Army completes first full Pershing battalion tests.
The State Welfare Board approves a 36.29 million budget, up 3.1 million, with 22.95 million from federal grants and allocations. It seeks 12.6 million state funds and 2 million Kerr Mills implementation, including 700 thousand state funds and 1.3 million federal for elderly medical care.
McNally leads overall with 35 points after three weeks as Pat Lawson wins last week’s top prize of 10 dollars and moves into second place in the overall standings. Rosie Lee Ennis pled guilty to simple assault with 60 day jail. Fred E. Box and Apolinar A. Villa also pleaded guilty with suspended terms. Other defendants faced varied sentences for larceny breaking and entering and attempted felonies. several cases pending, including Frank J. Davis manslaughter charge from June 30事故.
The Senate ratifies the limited test ban 80 to 19 after 11 days of debate. It bans atmospheric space and underwater tests while permitting underground tests. President Kennedy and Secretary of State Rusk hail the vote as a step toward peace amid Cold War tensions.

Eighth grade Tucumcari football player Charles Gutierrez, 14, remained in an Amarillo hospital for observation of a possible neck fracture after a Saturday game with Clayton. Gutierrez reported a headache and stiff neck, with his parents seeking medical evaluation per a coach and physician advised transfer.
A free nonsectarian boys ranch near Belen New Mexico asks for donations to support needy youths. The facility offers housing medical care education spiritual guidance work training farming and cattle care to provide food and income while covering most expenses.
A 33 year old Lubbock man James Barnett was arrested at 11:00 p m Monday near the Leg County Electric plant on the Tatum Highway after Lone Star Welders reported a theft. Sheriff Jake Fort and Sgt. Polson led the investigation while Lovington officers halted the high speed vehicle. Items recovered from the auto included welding rods coveralls an electrical drop cord tri squares and welders lenses.
Two men from Texas were arraigned in Justice of Peace Drayton Wasson’s court after arrests in Tatum by Sheriff’s Deputy Pennell. Charles William Hurst, 42, of Idalou, received thirty days for fraudulent check. Kary Gene Jackson, 24, of Broncho, got ninety days for petty theft. Details of the cases were unavailable.
