Suspect Arrested Here Confesses to Hobbs Robbery
In Levington early Thursday a man, 28 year old Guy Henry Smith of Harve Montana, confessed to an armed robbery at the K C Store in Hobbs and to pistol whipping owner Phil Vener. A gunshot fired during the struggle and the pistol was found nearby. Witnesses matched the suspect to the gun.

Auto Damages Total 350 In Lovington Collision
An auto accident in Lovington caused an estimated 175 damage to each car. Imogene McDougal 29 was cited for improper start from a parked position after pulling into traffic and hitting Lillian Smith 21 traveling north on South Main near Central Avenue. No injuries.

White Sands Sees Big Missile Upturn
Alamogordo based Maj. Gen. Frederick J. Thorlin told the Alamogordo Chamber of Commerce that White Sands Missile Range will see a sharp rise in rocket and Apollo testing this year. Off range firings from Del Rio Texas and Datil New Mexico precede Pershing tests from Blanding Utah and later to White Sands target areas. In a UN General Assembly speech Andrei Gromyko proposed an 18 nation summit in Moscow next year to craft a general disarmament treaty and relax the cold war. He urged a US Soviet bilat deal not to place nuclear weapons in space and allow limited missiles during disarmament as a safeguard.
