AFL-CIO urged suspension for 16 months of two tax incentives, the 7 percent investment tax credit and accelerated depreciation on real estate, arguing they fuel a long inflationary boom. NAM opposed the move, warning of delayed investment, while Goldfinger pressed for relief for workers as prices bite. The Ways and Means Committee planned to close hearings and start deliberations.

The New Mexico State Fair opened amid warm partly cloudy weather. Attendance at the racetrack grandstand reached 6,400 versus 6,200 last year and the pari mutuel handle totaled 364,535 compared with 335,982. Admissions to the fairgrounds were 27,150 up from 27,000. Flying Star, a 3 year old stallion owned by Bill Cass of Welsh Oklahoma, won the Interstate Appaloosa Horse Show while Absaro kee Bluelight, a 3 year old mare owned by Sonny Orr of Pueblo Colorado, earned top honors. Martha Proctor of Peralta and Mrs Guy Miller of Los Lunas led the home science division with 40 and 89 prizes respectively.
The Lovington forecast calls for late night and early morning fog with partly cloudy skies and isolated Saturday showers. Temperatures hold near 80 during the day and around 67 at night. Yesterday the high was 74 at noon and the overnight low 64 at 6 am. Total 1966 precipitation reaches 15.20 inches.
A congressional committee approved a 3.1 billion increase to the 18 year old U S aid program. The move would fund economic and military assistance for another 12 months to 95 nations.

Lovington city police investigated three accidents during patrols yesterday. A 1962 Cadillac owned by Clyde Johnson was hit in front of 837 West Madison with $100 damage. A 1963 Chevrolet station wagon and a 1962 Ford pickup sustained $50 damages each at Main and Avenue D after a left turn attempt. A 1965 Chevrolet owned by Harris Brown was involved in a hit and run on the east side of the street. full details remain under investigation.
New Mexico Junior College officials announce a part time job placement service in the Dean of Vocational-Adult Education Office. The program helps students find work to continue their studies and assists local employers in the NMJC district seeking part-time help. Job order forms will be available at four locations Hobbs Loving Eunice and Tatum.
The Army Department awards a 1192200 three year research grant for bubonic plague studies to the New Mexico State Health Department. Co investigators named are Dr T H Tomlinson and Bryan Miller. Tomlinson is associate director and Miller a vector control chief. Chaves County is set as a tentative site for plague plots following a 1960 outbreak that killed two Walker Air Force Base air men. Plague earlier broke out in northern New Mexico.
Alice S. Hughlett pleaded guilty Thursday to drinking in public in Albuquerque. Police said she was wanted in Morton Texas in connection with a shooting of officer B. R. Cunningham who escaped serious injury when a bullet struck a car Thursday. The car description and license matched a Texas wanted bulletin. Hughlett was sentenced to four days in jail.
The Tatum church holds a revival starting Sunday morning with breakfast for attendees. Dr. Dillon will preach at 7 15 and the service should conclude before 7 45 with all welcome to attend.
