Mary Ann and Andy Fischer of Aberdeen welcomed quintuplets four girls named Mary and a boy James Andrew born to a 76 dollar weekly shipping clerk and his wife. The babies born six to eight weeks premature weigh about 314 pounds combined and faced risks from prematurity as doctors worked at St Luke's Hospital to keep them alive.

Youth on probation for stealing farm tractor from Kansas
A 20 year old from Syracuse Kansas, William D. Mase, was put on two years probation by U S District Judge H Vearle Payne after pleading to stealing a farm tractor from Dale Hoyt. Mase must also pay the tractor’s return freight. He took the tractor August 3 intended to leave it in Syracuse but rode off toward Tucumcari 300 miles away averaging about 10 miles per hour.
