Livestock market activity was light with modest price gains in a free market. Analysts expect prices to edge higher then ease, while fat cattle and stockers ease and cotton and hog prices show mixed movements amid rainfall notes and ongoing farm spirits.
The Lea Counts Sheriff's Posse will ride in a state parade in Albuquerque and stay at the Holiday Inn on Central Avenue per a spokesman. Reservations were confirmed last night as trucks depart with horses from Dobbs at 6 30 p.m. Lovington at 7 3 and Tatum at 8 50.
Loving ton moves forward with industrial development as the city and Southern Union Gas Company finalize a long term lease. The Dallas based utility will purchase the entire output of 29,500 barrels per day from Famariss Oil Corporation for the new terminal project.
Southern Union negotiates lease to build Lea County Oil Terminal on 42 acres of city land in the industrial park. Bill Knox says initial investment could reach 3.5 million for 560000 barrels capacity with 15 tanks and an automated control room. Foster Wheeler to design. builder to be decided after plans move forward.
At the New Mexico Municipal League conference Tex Innocenzi of Odessa said refineries could meet America's heating fuel demand this winter absent severe weather or restrictive policies. He noted possible shortages if cold spells or world-market barriers disrupt supply and cited rising New Mexico gasoline use and broader factors behind energy concerns.
Dr. Leo L. Nussbaum of the North Central Association will visit College of the Southwest on September 21 to study the college’s financial, operational, and academic programs and identify deficiencies before an evaluation team’s visit. His recommendations could advance CSW toward full accreditation.

Central Mountains see mostly sunny conditions with similar winds and warming daytime temperatures Santa Fe 48 to 52.
Lea County commissioners approved updated subdivision rules after weeks of study and a public hearing. Dr. Ralph Stucky of Las Cruces will direct the project, with new requirements including a community water system for developments with 75 or more parcels and specific plat fees.

The State Court of Appeals in McKinley County upholds William De Olive’s conviction for possession of more than eight ounces of marijuana, ruling weighing at seizure time, not trial, governs the offense. Olive argued later drying reduced weight to four ounces, but the court affirmed that the offense is possession on the date of the act.

Ector County Sheriff Elwood Hill said deputies and Texas DPS and a former Hobbs sheriff broke a West Texas oilfield theft ring. Arrest warrants were issued for two men. a third may face charges later. The ring spanned five counties with $850000 in equipment recovered at six western Ector County oil sites. Fort, a former Hobbs sheriff, aided by DPS, helped identify brands welded over or obliterated on recovered gear and most items were returned to owners. some thefts dated back 18 months. An informant tipped Hill, who began recovering equipment last Friday.
The Junior High Methodist Youth Fellowship will sponsor a chili supper Friday evening at the church fellowship hall. The event runs from 5 p.m. with tickets at 1.50 for adults and 75 cents for children under 10. Dessert and drink are provided.
