Two Arrested in Local Police Roundup
Local authorities arrested Sidney Ray Wallace 23 of 1401 Cottonwood on assault charges and fined 27.50 with one day in jail. Willie Eugene Hill 40 of Houston Texas was taken for vagrancy and received a 30 day suspended sentence.

Heavy two car crash at South 4th Street and West Avenue H
Police investigated a collision at 9 40 p m involving a 1953 Ford driven by Norma J Barker and a 1959 Buick driven by Tommy Elvin Tipps. Barker was cited for failure to yield right of way after the Buick struck the Ford on the right front, causing extensive front and side damage to both vehicles.

Rainstorms Pull Bus From Arroyo Near Las Cruces
A school bus carrying Loma Heights Elementary students slid into a water filled arroyo on Elks Club Road after rain from Organ Mountains storms. The back of the bus held the students who were rescued by police and braces against rushing water. The bus was later moved to a second vehicle and the incident prompted the city to hire a consulting firm on flood diversion.

Rev and Mrs Eugene Webster are new Lovington residents arriving in August. He began duties as pastor of Apostolic Faith Church at Ave K and Fourth St on August 28. The family, previously of Enid Oklahoma, includes Leon 15 Dora Ann and Glen 9 and all attend Lovington schools. Rev Webster enjoys carpentry and his wife handcrafts and has worked with a child evangelism group.
