Mrs. W. R. Green of Hamlin Texas grandmother of Mrs. Lawrence Woodruff Lovington died at 10 p.m. Wednesday Funeral services set for Friday at 4 p.m. in Comanche Texas with burial in Bettes Texas.
Mrs. Deborah Sipes 24 and her two children were treated for minor injuries after a collision at Central and Sixth Street. Her Opel Kadet struck a parked 1968 Chevrolet owned by Rubenald eraz. Tammie three and Mark 18 months were treated and released. Sipes cited for careless driving.
Edwin M. Gaudet, former New Orleans policeman, pleads innocent to a Taos Count y indictment charging assault with intent to kill a Taos police officer Joe Lucero. He faces trial the week of Sept 17 on the state charges after his federal threat case was dropped. Gaudet is free on $10,000 bond and resides in Taos County with his wife Judy and attorney Elin Romero.
Former New Mexico state representative Bobby Mayfield announced his bid for the Democratic nomination for governor next year. Mayfield, who served Dona Ana County from 1961 to 1968 and now lives in Albuquerque, indicated at a news conference that he will seek broad support though he had not received official backing from the current governor.
Santa Fe officials of Escuela y Colegio Tonantzin withdrew a complaint alleging police interference with the school. The suit claimed illegal searching and destruction of property after a 45 minute gun battle with police. Roberto Garcia said the action ends police presence at the school but vows further legal steps to recover damages. Linda Montoya, 17, was reported in extremely critical condition after a gunshot incident.
A drizzle returns bringing cool temps to Levington as Tropical Storm Delia moistens the plains. Forecaster notes sun blocked by clouds with highs near 75 and a 69 degree noon reading. Farmers seek rain then sun while moisture proves light and sporadic.
Houston couple Enos Trivitt and Mary Brown were arrested in Dalhart within an hour of the Clayton service station murder of 66 year old James Graves. Police recovered a hunting knife two weapons a club and $110 in the suspects car. Graves was stabbed during a burglary at the Clayton station early Wednesday.
White Sands Missile Range scientists join Skylab I crew for an atmospheric experiment over Rainbow Valley and Fort McDowell near Phoenix. A radiometer on Skylab and ground instruments record about five minutes of data as the spacecraft passes at 2 35 p m MDT, aiding calibration of atmospheric observation systems.
Lovington police arrested Jerry Hampton 20 and William Lee 21 after responding to a loud party at 203 West Van Buren. Officers found marijuana on a table and in a toilet. Both men pleaded before Magistrate Judayton Wasson and were fined 100 dollars plus 10 dollars costs.
