Campbell to Call Special Session For House Reapportionment
Governor Jack M. Campbell will convene a special session in late October to reapportion the House of Representatives as ordered by District Judge Caswell S. Neal. He met leaders, who urged the session to be their responsibility, with Neal’s Aug 27 decision guiding the plan and a potential extension to Dec 1 beyond Neal’s Oct deadline.

Parade of Champions Opens Lea County Fair in Lovington
The 65 unit Parade of Champions starts at 3 30 p m today forming on Eddy Street near Avenue D. It travels west on Avenue D then north on Main to Lovington's north edge. Jim Jackson of the Lovington Chamber urges entering from the north to ease congestion. State officials Lt Governor Mack Easley, Highway Chairman John Sudderth, Senator Harold Runnels, and Rep Finis Heidel are expected to attend.

Ornery Bronc Highlights Lovington Rodeo Debut
Ornery Bronc is the centerpiece of a three day Lea County Rodeo in Lovington with stock from Butler and Sons of Elk City Oklahoma. Jiggs Butler arrives with bucking broncos and bulls while Junior Meeks and Goldie Carlton provide rodeo clown entertainment. Local figures John Snow and Dave Hopper organize events including a barbecue, parade, and a full lineup of rodeo events. About 100 cowboys are expected to compete for roughly 4500 dollars in prize money across bull riding bareback broncs saddle broncs calf roping steer wrestling and cowgirls barrel racing.

County commissioners approved distributing six month interest from 1963 on 4.14 million dollars in Lovington New Mexico Bank & Trust First National Bank of Hobbs and Lovington National Bank at 3 percent.
