A Britannia Airways four engine Britannia plane carrying 110 Britons crashed near Ljubljana, killing 95 aboard and injuring 22 survivors. The cause is undetermined as pilots reported radar requests moments before the crash.
Lovington police report a surge in coins and rings placed in parking meters, with more than twenty incidents in a week. Chief James Robinson notes a city ordinance bans nonmoney items and warns it is a misdemeanor, while meters generate about 667 dollars monthly for the city fund.

Police tracked two separate crashes in Lovington on a recent afternoon. The first incident at West Avenue B and South Main involved a 1966 Chevrolet pickup driven by Marina Paloma striking a 1962 Rambler. damages were $20 and $75 respectively, with Paloma cited for no driver’s license. The second collision on Main Street involved a 1965 Ford pickup. no injuries or citations were reported. Alvis Hill led the Lovington City Police investigation.
Thomas Leo Parsons aged 22 of Roswell Hobbs died after hydrogen sulfide fumes overtook him in an oil collecting tank four miles south on the Hobbs highway. He worked for B and M Service Company under Amerada Oil Company contract. Survivors include his parents and sister. Services set at First Baptist Church Hobbs with burial in Fort Worth. Parsons was a 1962 Roswell High School honor graduate and UNM student.
College President Dr H C Pannell and NMJC board members toured the campus and inspected the area. They agreed with contractors on minor details and gave the green light to start moving in. Within 30 minutes NMJC personnel began moving equipment as administration planned two weeks to commence classes.
The local selective service board office in the courthouse basement will open 8 a.m. to 12 noon and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
