Lovington forecast calls for fair weather tonight and Thursday with a high near 80 and a low around 34. Yesterday’s high in Carlsbad Deming and Roswell reached 78 while Grants reported a low of 23 at night. In Lovington the day’s high was 71 at 12 30 pm and the overnight low 30 at 5 am. Precipitation in Loving tae so far in 1966 stands at 15.18 inches.
The City and County officers had a busy 24 hour period with several minor incidents and a breaking and entering report to the sheriff's office. Kenneth Burns owner of the Border Bar reported a break in at 3:37 a.m. entry gained by breaking the front plate glass window. Investigation led by Sergeant Clarence Harris.
A three car collision was investigated by the City Police this morning. Roy Harmon 48 suffered a bruised forehead and leg injuries in the crash involving a 1960 Chevrolet sedan a 1950 Chevrolet pickup and a 1957 Oldsmobile Adan Perales 24 drove the pickup which was a total loss Louis Bagwell owned the Oldsmobile parked at the time Vehicle two failed to stop for a yield sign and was cited for no operators license and failure to yield right of way Captain Cunningham checked the accident.
Artists are invited to participate in the Lovington Art Festival on October 25 during Crazy Days. Nora Sebring, chair, announces the event approved by the Llano Estacado Art Association. The show runs 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the courthouse lawn with weather contingency moving indoors to the former E and B Jewelry building. Some exhibits may be not for sale. Peggy Westbrook assists with the event.
The local Lions Club plans its annual toys for Christmas initiative in cooperation with CPAC. President Tom Embree says discarded toys in good condition are being accepted to be repaired and prepared for the project.
The Lovington Woman's Club invites all citizens to a Meet the Candidates event tomorrow from 9:30 to 11 a.m. in the Lovington National Bank community room. Local and county candidates, including governor hopefuls, have accepted. several races garner interest though some key figures are unavailable due to conflicts.
Housewives in Hobbs launch a boycott targeting chain groceries and plan a wider spread to four New Mexico towns as organizers urge customers to shop locally and pressure retailers for price changes.
The New Mexico GI Forum seeks to cut all federal education funds to Eddy County alleging discrimination against Mexican Americans in Lov ing School Dist. No. 10. District officials denied the charges, noting visits to classrooms found no discrimination.
