USDA notes stronger export demand boosts prices to near historic highs. American Pima totals 84400 bales nationally, 14000 in New Mexico.

The federal grand jury, sidelined by Agnew's tax case, resumes activity with focus on Baltimore County politicians and kickback suspects shown in a 40 page evidence exposé. Prosecution hints at potential review of Mandel and other Maryland figures amid renewed openness.
Albuquerque panel at the New Mexico Press Association convention will examine the clash between the State Legislature and the Supreme Court over a newsman’s right to withhold sources. NM leaders urged rapid Senate and House confirmation of Gerald Ford to the vice presidency to tackle inflation and the energy crisis. Gov Bruce King and Sen Domenici praised the choice while Rep Lujan and Sen Montoya reserved judgment pending hearings.
Denise Smith reports her two year old daughter Angel, severely burned in a Lovington car fire, is not improving at the Bernalillo Burn Center in Albuquerque. Doctors fear continued decline as pneumonia and a serious infection take hold.
Sen. Pete Domenici says HEW proposed rules could threaten the University of New Mexico Medical School by limiting patient payment assistance at teaching hospitals. The regulations would suspend federal payments if teaching hospitals exceed 50 percent nonpaying patients, risking over $50,000 yearly for Bernalillo County Medical Center. Comments deadline is October 17.
John Stencel head of the Rocky Mountain Farmers Union will speak at the Lea County Farmers Union convention in Lovington at the fair building. The event features a covered dish supper starting at 7 o clock. W G Turnipseed LCFU President notes elections of officers and adoption of resolutions for the state convention will be on the agenda.
